Advanced Placement courses prepare students for nationally administered AP exams; success on these exams may earn college credit and/or advanced placement at many colleges and universities. All students who meet the minimal course requirements are encouraged to enroll in these challenging courses.


AP Registration & Fees Payment Deadline of November 8, 2023

Pay Your AP Exams Fees

Wednesday, November 8, 2023 is the final ordering deadline for all SPS students to register for an AP exam for first semester and yearlong AP courses. SPS does not allow any late registration, unless it is a new student to the district.

Fees

·$118 per exam*

·$20 per exam for students eligible to receive an exam fee reduction or waiver for the 2023-24 school year*

·$166 per exam for AP Capstone (AP Seminar or AP Research)*

No Show or Late Cancellation Fee

A student will be charged a $40 fee unused exam fee.

*All payments made by credit card are subject to the following fees:

·$1.95 per transaction for all transactions $15.00 to $49.99

·3.99% of the total invoice amount for all transactions greater than or equal to $50.00

Follow these steps to register for an AP Exam 

Step 1 Sign in to myap.collegeboard.org and enroll in your AP class sections using the unique join code provided by your AP teachers. Note: Students must create a CollegeBoard account if they have not already done so. 

*Save User ID, Password and Email used to create the College Board account

Step 2: For each exam, confirm your exam registration status

              before November 6

Step 3: Make your AP exam payment(s) via a Parent’s SchoolPay/Source before November 4,

2023. Keep a copy of the receipt for your records.

$40.00 non-refundable amount for canceled exams from November 8th-March 1st.

No Refunds after March 2nd for unused exams. 

Students not enrolled in AP Courses at West Seattle High School that wish to take an AP Exam must contact the district office of Assessment and Instructional Improvement director Aira Jackson ajjacksonsam@seattleschools.org will assist you.

AP Criteria

Students prior to enrolling in an AP course must meet the following general criteria:

  • Earned a ‘B’ grade or better in a prerequisite course (Prerequisite courses are determined by individual departments that offer AP).
  • Earn passing scores on all sections of the state assessment (Reading, Writing, and Math).
  • Teacher recommendation (As determined by departments that offer AP).
  • PSAT/NMSQT scores.

What if I have not received any information yet from the College Board regarding my AP Exams?

The College Board is communicating directly with students and families about online resources and details regarding their shortened AP Exams online. The College Board is using the student’s email address listed in the College Board student account. If a student has not provided their email, please log in to the College Board AP student page and update your profile to be sure that you receive all your AP Exam updates from the College Board. Sign in to access AP student resources.

AP Courses

All AP courses at West Seattle High School are yearlong courses. This requires students to be committed to a year long course of study.

Students taking an AP course at West Seattle High School should expect an average of an hour of homework daily in each AP class they are enrolled.
