This Week and Next
PTSA Fundraising Meeting
Please come help our WSHS PTSA explore ideas for fundraising for the 2017-2018 school year. Our Auction Chair position is open and we need to consider: is an auction still the way to go? Do other fundraising strategies make more sense at this time? Please join us this Wednesday night, 4/19 at 7:30PM at the Starbucks in the Junction (California and Alaska) to discuss and make some important decisions.

Surveys are also administered each year to all school staff and students in grades 3 through 12. Results from these surveys are used to guide improvements at the school and district level. Please participate in this important opportunity to share your views.

Help WSHS Enforce the Dress Code
Inappropriate attire can be cause for significant distraction and disruption. Numerous egregious violations of the SPS dress code have been reported and the administration is seeking parent support in promoting the policy at home. For your reference, below is the policy, as found in the student handbook.
Students are expected to dress appropriately for school. Dress and appearance must not present or cause disruption. All logos and attire must be school appropriate. No alcohol or drug references or paraphernalia on clothing are permitted. Shoes must be worn at all times. Overly revealing or disruptive clothing, e.g. sagged pants, exposed underwear, gang related insignia, including bandanas, obscenities, etc. are not permitted. Students out of compliance with the dress code will be referred to administration or security. Students may be asked to change or modify their clothing, parents/families contacted, or asked to leave campus.
The Seattle Skills Center provides advanced Career and Technical Education (CTE) to high school students. In the regular school year we serve 16 to 20 year olds, and in the summer, we provide introductory Skills Center courses to incoming 9th graders through 12th graders. In all of our courses, students can earn high school credit, industry recognized certifications, and in some cases, college credit.
One new summer course that is specially designed for incoming 9th graders is called, “9th Grade Advantage.” This summer course will help students transition into high school and build skills while getting a jump start on the new 24 credit graduation requirement. Learn more about the Skills Center options.
- 9th – 12th grade: Our summer courses are open to all students in 9th – 12th grade and run from July 5 to July 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. everyday. If students need to take a credit retrieval class, they can do this in the morning and still take one of our Skills Center classes.
- 16 to 20 year olds: During the school year we provide 16 to 20 year old students advanced CTE preparatory courses in career pathways like culinary, medical, construction, manufacturing, media arts, teaching, fire fighting, auto technology, video game production, and maritime operations.
Register now for the West Seattle 5k!
The West Seattle 5k is our Spring Fundraiser to raise much needed funds for West Seattle High School supported by the PTSA.
