    Fall Drama Production Auditions

    DramaStudents interested in auditioning for our fall show, WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S THE STAR WARS (VERILY, A NEW HOPE), please attend auditions this Wednesday, 9/13 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Call Backs will be held on Thursday, 9/14 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. To audition you must pick up and fill out the audition form from the main office. Make sure to have your parents sign the form. Students should prepare a 1 to 2-minute Shakespearean monologue. It should be a dramatic monologue, but you should play it for comic effect. Do a funny voice, do it as a children’s show - funny is the goal. For more info visit the Westside Drama website.

We hope you have had the opportunity to hear from Mr. Vance personally but if not, please plan to visit the school on Curriculum Night.     Homecoming Week Spirit Week

    Students will enjoy a fun week of activities celebrating Homecoming Week October 2 - 6. The theme is "Home, Sweet Homecoming".

    Homecoming Dance Announced

    This year's Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 7th. The theme this year is Glo'Co Blacklight so students should wear white or bright colors.

    Reminder: New Bell Times This School Year

    ClockDon't forget that SPS is implementing new school bell schedules for the 2017-2018 school year. This year, WSHS bells will ring at 8:45AM and 3:35PM. This change will allow for 20 extra minutes of instruction for students.

    Key Student School Calendar Datescalendar

    Remember that the 2017-2018 school calendar includes a weekly Wednesday early release. Students will be released at 2:30PM each week. Review the key calendar dates for students on the SPS website.

    Puyallup Fair Tickets

    Students received a ticket to the Puyallup Fair in Advisory last Thursday. Don't let them miss out on a fun time! Fair ends on September 24th so there is plenty of time to take advantage of the free ticket. Students without an advisory class were eligible for a free ticket on a first come, first served basis.

    History Teacher Attends Kennedy Seminar

    Renee PhelpsLast month, social studies teacher Renee Phelps attended a seminar organized by the Gilder Lehrman Center for American History on The Kennedy Presidency at Boston University. It was taught by Dr. Barbara Perry, a professor at UVA's Miller Center on the American Presidency. Over the course of five days 30 specially selected teachers from all over the country attended lectures, visited important sites and created lesson plans based on the content of the course. They also managed to find time to visit other important historic sites, including Fenway Park! She's looking forward to using what she learned and lesson plans in her courses.

    With the start of a new year, we want to ask you to join the Booster Club with an Annual Membership. If you’ve supported us in the past, thank you! We hope we can count on your support again. If you have not joined in the past, we hope you will consider doing so this year. Growing our membership is vital to the success of the Booster Club, and ultimately to the extent we can help the students. We help the teams with uniforms, equipment, and needs our school district’s limited budget cannot cover.

    baseballWSHS is proud to welcome Bryan Tupper as the new Varsity Baseball Coach. Bryan is a WSHS alum himself and has been an Assistant Coach in the program. We are looking forward to having Bryan lead the Wildcats this coming school year.

    West Seattle neighbor Dan Cassuto has launched "Sound Originals", a photography and videography business and is offering a senior portrait special rate of $149 to West Seattle families.     Student Activities and Opportunities

    NEW! Student Senate Leadership Opportunity

    AttentionStudents will have a new leadership opportunity this school year. Students will have the opportunity to run for representative of their advisement class. Each advisement class will elect one representative and one backup to attend student senate meetings. Student senate meetings will be held once a month during advisement.

    Service Learning at Gatewood Elementary

    Gatewood PTA is looking for 3-4 students available to volunteer for 2-3/4 hours of Volunteers NeededChild Care at our first 2017-18 PTA Meeting on Tuesday 9/19 from 5:30p-8:15p.
