    Brian Vance joins the West Seattle High School team after serving as the principal of Roosevelt High School and The Center School.  Mr. Vance's career started in Montgomery County, MD as a counselor and a coach.  After moving to Washington State, he completed his administrative program at the University of Washington's Danforth Educational Leadership Program.  Mr. Vance has served on a wide range of leadership groups and committees within the Seattle Public Schools and at the State level through the Association of Washington School Principals. 

    He is very excited about West Seattle High School. Mr. Vance has a deep passion for the West Seattle Community and a vested interest in creating an education experience that supports all student in preparing themselves for their future.

    Scott Canfield

    Scott Canfield joined WSHS in 2014 after teaching social studies Federal Way School District. He has a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Washington, a Master in Teaching from Seattle University, and received his endorsement in educational leadership from Western Governors University.

    Mr. Canfield truly believes every student should be given the opportunity to dream and begin to design their paths to success in life, and to start taking the steps necessary to deliver upon that dream, as soon as they step foot into WSHS. He brings an alternative mindset to West Seattle and is devoted to helping the community think creatively about what it means to prepare our students for the ever-changing world of the 21st century. He is both excited and honored to be a WSHS Wildcat!

    Nancy Carroll

    Nancy Carroll is excited to join the West Seattle staff this year as assistant principal.  Most recently, Mrs. Carroll served as Special Education Assistant Director in Federal Way Public Schools. She has two Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington: German Language and Literature and Psychology; a Master in Teaching from Seattle University and earned her principal certificate from Seattle Pacific University. As a former special education and alternative education teacher, she is enthusiastic about preparing students for smooth post-secondary transitions and to prepare for success in a global economy. 

    Mrs. Carroll is the mother of a Seattle Public Schools graduate who’s now in college. She lived, studied, and worked in Europe and enjoys visiting family there. She speaks fluent German, pretty good Spanish, and rotten French.

    Garth Reeves

    Garth Reeves has a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from The Evergreen State College, a Master of Arts in Education from Antioch University and Washington State Principal Certification from the Danforth Educational Leadership Program at the University of Washington. Garth has been a teacher and administrator in the New York City, Highline and Seattle school districts for the last 10 years, during which he has served as Humanities and English Language Learner teacher, school coach, co-principal, district administrator and assistant principal. Garth has extensive experience in project-based learning, curriculum design, restorative justice, and supporting student development of 21st Century, social-emotional skills. 

    In addition to his passion for education, Mr. Reeves is a professional musician with 25 years of experience, having toured the U.S. extensively and traveled to Russia to perform. He is a father of two children in the Seattle Public Schools.
